Honeywell To Provide Industry’s Largest Modular Cryogenic Gas Processing Plant to a Leading Midstream Company

300 million standard cubic foot per day plant utilizing Ortloff’s Recycle Split Vapor (RSV) technology that recovers more than 99 percent of ethane.

Honeywell’s UOP Russell business will provide an SC30 modular gas processing plant, capable of processing 300 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, to an energy company and leading full-service midstream logistics provider. The SC30 is the largest fully modular cryogenic plant available, employing Ortloff Recycle Split Vapor (RSV) technology to recover more than 99 percent of high-value ethane and almost all propane from natural gas.

The SC30 plant can process 50 percent more natural gas than previous designs, making it about 20 percent more energy efficient on a per-cubic foot basis, substantially improving gas processors’ returns on capital and operating expenses. The plant is prefabricated and delivered in modular form to streamline project schedules, ensure greater operational reliability and faster production.

“The SC30 was selected because of its strong economics and UOP Russell’s long record in the successful delivery of modular gas processing plants,” said Neil Eckersley, UOP Russell general manager at Honeywell. “Due to its scale and inclusion of Ortloff RSV technology, this plant will efficiently extract nearly all the ethane present in the feed gas, and this ethane is extremely valuable as a feedstock to produce ethylene for making plastics.”

Cryogenic gas processing plants cool natural gas until heavier and more valuable natural gas liquids such as ethane can be drawn out in liquid form.

The SC30 was introduced this fall, using larger pumps, coolers, tanks and piping housed on a series of mobile modular skids. Each of these skids are manufactured in factory conditions, ensuring high manufacturing quality and on-time delivery. The entire plant is transported by truck and assembled on site, often to remote locations where natural gas is produced. Plant modules are easily assembled, significantly reducing construction time and expense, and enhancing reliability after start-up. This enables customers to more quickly begin processing gas and earning revenue.

In August, Honeywell UOP acquired Ortloff Engineers, Ltd., the industry’s leading developer of specialized technologies for natural gas processing and sulfur recovery. Ortloff technologies maximize gas separation and compression in modular cryogenic gas plants, providing customers with high operational flexibility and greater returns on their plant investments.
